Holly Black returns to Elfhame with A Conspiracy of Charming Monsters
Holly Black’s new illustrated collection gathers six stories set in Elfhame, including two new ones about Madoc in exile and High King Cardan.
Fans of The Folk of the Air have a new reason to go back to Faerie. A Conspiracy of Charming Monsters, published on 3 November 2026, is a full-colour illustrated collection of six stories set in Elfhame.
Two of the stories are new. One looks at Madoc’s inner life while he is in exile, and the other shows the moment High King Cardan realises what he most wants. The others include a tale of an exiled redcap in the mortal world and a tiny sprite who puts the High Court in danger.
The stories are best read after the Folk of the Air trilogy, which begins with The Cruel Prince. Our Holly Black page lists that trilogy, the Elfhame duology and the Modern Faerie Tales in order.
