New on The Recurring Cast: reading flowcharts
Authors with more than one series, or characters who cross between books, now have a reading flowchart that shows how everything connects.
Some authors are easy to read in order. Others write several series that meet, share characters and swap leads, and a simple list does not show how it all fits together.
We have added reading flowcharts for 292 authors. Each one sets out an author’s series side by side in the order they began, with standalone novels at the end. Each book shows its lead characters, marks where a character first appears, and flags crossovers, where a character from one series turns up in another.
Short stories and novellas are shown in green, so you can see where they fit, and books written as joint novels are linked with dashed arrows.
Michael Connelly’s flowchart is a good example, with Harry Bosch, Mickey Haller, Renée Ballard and Jack McEvoy all meeting across the books. You will find a link to the flowchart in the reading order section of each author page that has one.
We have been careful about spoilers. Characters whose role would give away a twist are left off the chart.
