Stephen King on screen: Derry, The Institute and Carrie
After a busy 2025 of King films, television has followed with a Derry prequel, The Institute and a new Carrie series for Prime Video.
2025 was one of the biggest years ever for Stephen King adaptations, with The Monkey, The Long Walk and Edgar Wright’s new version of The Running Man all reaching cinemas.
Television has followed. It: Welcome to Derry, on HBO, explores the history of the Maine town at the heart of It, and The Institute, on MGM+, adapts King’s novel about children with special abilities held in a sinister facility.
Mike Flanagan, who directed Doctor Sleep, is making a series based on Carrie, King’s first novel, for Prime Video.
King’s Derry and Castle Rock books are charted on his author page, so you can see where characters from It and other novels cross paths.
